TimeBank Sponsorship
Why and How Sponsorship Works contribute here
All volunteer organizations have overhead and the number one reason they fail is lack of funding. Most of the TimeBank duties are handled by part time paid "staff" many other aspects are run by member volunteers. Companies or individuals who see the benefit of bringing strangers together and building friendships, giving help to those in need without allowing the opportunity to give back (dependancy and dimished self-esteem), community volunteering with grace and enthusiasm and a stronger community... will all LOVE TimeBanking. Real change is created when:
How to create all that? TimeBanking is one great way..... Needs: Everyone has simple needs that can easily be fulfilled, not by a professional or government but a friend. Most people have few friends and don't know how to aquire them. Abilities: Everyone has value and abilities that they would enjoy sharing and contributiing to another person. The question is who? Who would appreciate a helping hand, companionship and whatever unique skills or knowledge one has picked up along life's path? Unmet needs + Unexpressed abilities + TimeBanking = small miracles The Core Economy is the unpaid, unrecognized "work" of being a parent, good neighbour a friend and helping those in need. It's what happens in families and in heathy, strong, vibrant communities. Core Economy work takes time and energy (just ike "real" paid work) but it is usually not valued therefore rarely understood for the depth of it's true value. The Core Economy is unstructured and random in it's ability to match all the unfulfilled needs and the abundant abilities lying dormant within people who would be enriched by sharing their time and abilities with another human being. There are two key types of TimeBanking Neighbour-To-Neighbour and specialized project based. Neighbor-To-Neighbor TimeCredit
Exchanges:
involve individuals helping one another. They rebuild social networks
and strengthen communities. They create a social network of trust and
caring and insert reciprocity into communities one exchange at a time. Specialized TimeCredit Exchanges:
build partnering in order to achieve special purpose projects. In many
cases, that partnering centers around the ideas of Co-Production and
takes place between professionals— whose work is to help
individuals and communities—and those with whom they work as
clients. Each of these two kinds of TimeCredit Exchanges can stand alone, but experience has shown that they are most effective when they work hand in hand. Neighbor-To-Neighbor Exchanges find that specialized projects make it possible to draw in new energy and funds; Specialized TimeCredit Exchanges with a very focused mission find that encouraging and building informal support networks strengthen the work they are doing. Specialized TimeCredit approach involves a group of people taking on a specific project. It may be school children tutoring others or the elderly members of a Neighbor-To-Neighbor Exchange involved in helping to ensure that members take their medications on time. Specialized TimeCredit Exchanges prove to be especially effective in turning professional and volunteer helping from a one-way “we help you” to a two-way win-win deal. Clients become true partners in the effort to secure change and to reach for justice. Specialized applications of TimeCredits build communities of mission. Agency Based Professionals can benefit greatly from their own Specialized TimeCredit Exchange. Contact us for a working introduction to the principles and thinking behind Co-Production, and an explanation of how to build the kinds of partnering and participation that are so central to Co-Production into achieving your mission by including TimeCredits in your process. Any indiviudual unable to afford to contribute the donation amount is invited to request to be Sponsored as a member. Help the TimeBank grow and succeed. As with every other organization there are costs associated with printing, phone, office, travel and a very small paid staff. We are structured to minimize overhead but we require some paid staff and some overhead.
